The new school year is starting and their have been a few changes to the visual arts program. First of all, 6th grade is now 9 weeks instead of 7. This will allow us to learn about oriental art and create 2 additional projects. Next, 7th grade is now part of a 12 week wheel (along with computers and industrial tech). It will also become a prerequisite for both 8th grade art and Graphic Design. This will give continuity to the 8th grade program and allow for a more rigorous curriculum in the coming years. It also required streamlining of the program.
6th GradeWelcome to art! You will be spending everyday in art class. In fact, you will have more time in art in those 9 weeks then you had ALL last year in 5th grade. This week we will be learning the procedures in the art room along with being reintroduced to the elements and principles of art. We will then take our new knowledge to create calaveras. 8th GradeWelcome to 8th grade art! We will be together for the first semester and will plunge into the art of the Native Americans. we will create 2 projects with our new knowledge, one in a very new media and one in an ancient and much loved media. | 7th GradeWelcome to the first part of the new 7th grade wheel! We will be spending our first few weeks learning drawing techniques which will culminate early next week with drawing a dramatically lit still life (remember the spotlights?) I am looking forward to this new adventure and seeing you all again. Graphic DesignWelcome to graphic design. We have the largest class ever for gd and the talent of all of you is extraordinary. This quarter will be action packed. You will need to learn about type and graphic software so that we can design the 2013-14 yearbook cover by the end of October. Because the computer lab needs to be reserved, the semester is planned out on a syllabus. You can access this syllabus by a link to the right. You can also download (with your parents permission) the 2 freeware programs we will use (artweaver and gimp). These can be found in the website tab. |
