Getting everyone caught up
The last few weeks in an art room are extremely busy so this will be my update of goings on and due dates. (I will announce the winners of the visual arts award later).
For the 3 people who do not know, I am retiring after 18 years at LMS. It is both exciting and sad since I have had the opportunity to teach many wonderful students. My replacement is well known to the Lakeshore community. Gail Harrah, Hollywood art teacher will be taking the position and continuing this art program injecting her own style and creativity.

6th GradeStudents have been practicing writing with calligraphy pens and ink. We are learning to write in the Chauncery Cursive style. The activity will culminate with the creation of an Illuminated Manuscript on parchment paper of their names. The last weeks will involve a watercolor study of color mixing, leaning to draw shapes in 1 point perspective and the metal embossing of an African style mask. ALL projects will be due in the upcoming weeks and grades are shown online. Upcoming Due Dates
| 7th GradeStudents have finished up a painting in the Aboriginal style of dot painting including a "dreaming" of their own creation. After finishing glazing their teapots, they will end the year learning about color and color schemes. Students will also have and exam the last week of school (date will be posted when the day is decided). Color study guide linked to the right Upcoming Due Dates

8th Grade
Students wrapped up a two and a half week lesson of art nouveau and art deco creating two different projects. The art nouveau project was a mirror frame and the art deco project was a fused glass tile. Both projects were very work intensive and everyone did a wonderful job.
Students have begun a pop art painting. We will then create a relief print using safety cut (softer than linoleum) to carve out our plate. We will be using a vegetable as our inspiration and creating an edition of 5 prints.
Students will then be introduced to abstract expressionism creating artist cards of 4 artists and they will wrap up the year by creating a Calder style sculpture using a pop can.
Students will also have and exam the last week of school (date will be posted when the day is decided). 2nd quarter study guide linked to the right
