8th GradeUpcoming Due Dates
Getting everyone caught upThe last few weeks in an art room are extremely busy so this will be my update of goings on and due dates. (I will announce the winners of the visual arts award later). For the 3 people who do not know, I am retiring after 18 years at LMS. It is both exciting and sad since I have had the opportunity to teach many wonderful students. My replacement is well known to the Lakeshore community. Gail Harrah, Hollywood art teacher will be taking the position and continuing this art program injecting her own style and creativity.
8th GradeStudents wrapped up a two and a half week lesson of art nouveau and art deco creating two different projects. The art nouveau project was a mirror frame and the art deco project was a fused glass tile. Both projects were very work intensive and everyone did a wonderful job.
Students have begun a pop art painting. We will then create a relief print using safety cut (softer than linoleum) to carve out our plate. We will be using a vegetable as our inspiration and creating an edition of 5 prints. Students will then be introduced to abstract expressionism creating artist cards of 4 artists and they will wrap up the year by creating a Calder style sculpture using a pop can. Students will also have and exam the last week of school (date will be posted when the day is decided). 2nd quarter study guide linked to the right Upcoming Due Dates
All clay pieces mus be glazed by Friday, May 16th
8th GradeThe 8th grade classes will be working on 2 projects at once. Students will be creating a mirror frame using cardboard and papier mache. During this time, small groups of students will be creating a fused glass tile. Students in 5th hour have been scheduled to work on the glass due to the limited supply of glass tools. Students will need to contribute $5 for glass to do this project. Students who cannot contribute this money can earn glass by working in the art room for 40 minutes. Students may also choose not to do this project and will be assign a different project that meets the learning targets.
