Yearbook selectionsThe 8th grade graphic design class finished creating designs for this years yearbook cover. As always, it was not without drama and the end results are wonderful. The winning designs are: Buchanan Arts Center "More than Bricks and Mortar"Lakeshore Middle School has 9 works at the Buchanan Arts Center show. The works need to be architecturally linked. 8th graders Kimberlyn Tyson, Michael McCraner, and Morgan Matlac have their Victorian house designs exhibited. 7th grade students Lauren Cook and Calab Angelo have their Surreal cities there and 6th graders Noah Knezic, Chiara Thrum, Mason Gardiner and Brenda Rosa are showcasing their Greek inspired column vases. The new quarter has started with new projects. 7th grade will be finishing up their term this week and moving on to Industrial Tech for the next rotation.
We are fast approaching the end of the quarter. This means different things for different grades. For the 8th grade and graphic design, we are halfway though the semester course. There will be an exam on Wednesday October 30th. The 7th grade is 2/3rds through their term. They will have an exam on Wednesday October 30th also on their drawing unit. 6th grade will be at the end of their rotation. They do not have an exam but everything that they have done in class will be due on the 30th. I will be out of the building October 21-25 except for Wednesday. Students will be continuing their work or learning new things during these four days. Upon my return we will wrap up the quarter in 6th and 8th grades (7th grade ends in 3 weeks)
*Students will be bringing home mid term grade reports Tuesday
The new school year is starting and their have been a few changes to the visual arts program. First of all, 6th grade is now 9 weeks instead of 7. This will allow us to learn about oriental art and create 2 additional projects. Next, 7th grade is now part of a 12 week wheel (along with computers and industrial tech). It will also become a prerequisite for both 8th grade art and Graphic Design. This will give continuity to the 8th grade program and allow for a more rigorous curriculum in the coming years. It also required streamlining of the program.
